What Place Your Skill does #

Where: placeyourskill.com

Most employers let an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) read your resume before a person does. If the resume misses the job's keywords, or uses columns, tables or images the software cannot read, it is filtered out.

Place Your Skill turns your work history into a clean, ATS-friendly resume, tailors it to a specific job posting, and writes a matching cover letter. You keep full control: every result can be refined in plain English and downloaded as a PDF.

  • Works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Nothing to install.
  • Three steps: add your experience, paste the job description, download and apply.
  • Always check every line before you send it. The AI writes from what you give it; make sure everything is true and sounds like you.

Creating resumes

Create your first ATS resume #

Where: Dashboard → Create ATS Resume

  1. Open the Create ATS Resume tab on your dashboard.
  2. Either type your work history in plain English in the big box (jobs, dates, what you did, results, skills, education, certificates), or press Choose File to upload your existing CV as a .pdf or .txt file. The text from the file appears in the box, where you can still edit it.
  3. Press Generate ATS Resume. A window "Converting experience into ATS standard resume…" shows while the AI works; this usually takes 20 to 40 seconds.
  4. Your new resume appears below with its ATS Match Score and is saved automatically under Saved Resumes.

Tips: mention numbers (team size, percentages, money saved), exact tool and software names, and month and year for each job. You do not need to format anything; the AI does that. Your name, email address, phone number and location are taken from your Profile, so fill those in first. Add your LinkedIn link to the text if you want it on the resume. Details you type in the text win over the profile.

Your ATS Match Score and how to improve it #

Where: Shown above every resume preview

Every resume gets an ATS Match Score (0-100%): an estimate of how well an applicant tracking system will read and rank it.

  • Left box: the score and the keywords the AI suggests adding.
  • Right box, How to Improve Your Score: concrete fixes, for example missing contact details, dates without months, results without numbers.
  • History of Refinement Instructions Used: every change made to this resume, with date and time.

Use the tips with Refine Resume or tailor the resume to a job to raise the score. The score is a guide, not a guarantee of an interview.

Viewing a resume and cover letter #

Where: Dashboard → Saved Resumes → View

Below the score you see the full resume: your name and contact line, Professional Summary, Core Competencies, Professional Experience, Education and Certifications. If the resume has a cover letter, it follows under Tailored Cover Letter.

The bar above the resume has Download Resume PDF, Download Cover Letter PDF (when there is one) and Print Clean Resume (see Downloading PDFs).

Saved Resumes #

Where: Dashboard → Saved Resumes

The Saved Resumes tab lists every resume you created, newest first, with its score and date. Each card has:

  • View - shows the resume (and cover letter) below on the same page.
  • Refine - opens the Refine Resume & Cover Letter tab with this resume selected.
  • ATS Keyword Analysis - an in-depth keyword audit (see ATS Keyword Analysis).
  • Resume PDF and Cover Letter PDF - downloads. If the resume has no cover letter yet, Create Cover Letter appears instead and takes you to the job description box.
  • Delete This Resume / Cover Letter - see Deleting a resume.

You can keep as many versions as you like, for example one per job you apply for.

Tailor a resume to a job and create a cover letter #

Where: Dashboard → Refine Resume & Cover Letter → Target Job Description

  1. Open the Refine Resume & Cover Letter tab and pick a resume under Select from Your Saved Resumes. Its preview loads below.
  2. Copy the full job posting (title, responsibilities, requirements) and paste it into Target Job Description (JD).
  3. Press Refine Resume and Cover Letter.
  4. The AI rewrites the resume around that job's keywords and writes a matching cover letter. The result is saved as a new resume; your original stays unchanged.

This is also the way to get a cover letter for a resume that does not have one. Do this for every job you apply for: a tailored resume scores much higher than a general one.

ATS Keyword Analysis #

Where: Dashboard → Saved Resumes → ATS Keyword Analysis

The keyword audit shows what an ATS finds in your resume and what it is missing.

  1. On a saved resume press ATS Keyword Analysis. The audit opens in a window after a few seconds.
  2. 1. Verbatim Keywords Found in Resume: each keyword with its category and strength, where it appears in your resume, and why screeners value it. If a keyword is wrong or no longer true, press Remove Keyword from Resume.
  3. 2. Recommended Keywords to Boost ATS Score: keywords to add, with the expected boost, why, and where to put them. Tick the ones that are true for you (or Select All Recommended Skills) and press Add Selected Skills to my Saved Resume.

Only add skills you really have. Recruiters and interviews will check them.

Downloading PDFs and printing #

Where: Resume preview bar · Saved Resumes cards

  • Download Resume PDF (or Resume PDF on a card) - a clean, ATS-friendly PDF of the resume only.
  • Download Cover Letter PDF (or Cover Letter PDF) - the cover letter as a separate PDF.
  • Print Clean Resume - prints only the resume from your browser.

PDFs are built on our server. A "Generating your PDF" window shows for a moment and the file then downloads by itself; wait for it to finish. Most job sites accept PDF; if a posting asks for another format, follow its instructions.

Deleting a resume #

Where: Dashboard → Saved Resumes → Delete This Resume / Cover Letter

Daily AI limits #

Where: Dashboard (badge at the top right)

Every generation, refinement and keyword analysis is one AI use.

  • 7-Day Trial: up to 10 per day during the trial; no daily limit once your monthly plan starts.
  • Free offer links: up to 25 per day during the free period.
  • Paid plans and vouchers: no daily limit.

On plans with a limit the dashboard shows AI uses today: x / y. The count resets every day. Your resumes are written by our AI providers (Anthropic Claude, with Groq and Google Gemini as back-ups); they only receive the text needed to write the resume.

Your profile #

Where: Profile

  1. Press Profile at the top right.
  2. Update your first, middle and last name and phone number. Your email address is shown but cannot be changed here (use the contact form).
  3. Default Location / Address for Resumes (optional): your city and state or country, for example South Carolina, USA. It is used as the location on new resumes.
  4. To change your password, type a new one under Update Password; leave it empty to keep your current password.
  5. Press Save Profile Changes.

Your name, email address, phone number and location from this page are put in the contact line of every new resume and used to sign cover letters. Changing them later does not change resumes you already made; use Refine Resume for those.

Managing your subscription #

Where: Profile → Manage Subscription

Under Manage Subscription you see your Current Plan, the Date Subscribed and the Time Remaining. For the trial and monthly plan it also shows the next renewal date and amount.

  • Cancel Subscription (trial and monthly plan): stops all future charges. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Changed your mind? Press Keep My Subscription before that date.
  • Manage Billing (trial and monthly plan): opens Stripe's secure billing page, where you can change your card, download invoices or change your plan.
  • Extend or Change Plan (other plans): opens the Renew page to buy a plan or redeem a voucher.
  • Delete Profile: see Deleting your profile.

If a monthly payment fails, Stripe retries it automatically and the page shows Payment problem; we also email you.

Invoices and credit notes #

Where: Profile → Invoices

For every card payment (the trial fee, each monthly payment, the agency plan) you receive a PAID invoice from Vertex Catalyst Group LLC, the company behind Place Your Skill. For every refund you receive a credit note.

  • Each one is e-mailed as a PDF to the billing e-mail address you used at payment, shortly after the payment. Stripe also sends its own payment receipt.
  • All of them are listed under Invoices (top menu on your Profile page), where you can download the PDF again at any time.
  • Invoice numbers look like VCGU-PYS-00001, credit notes like VCGU-PYS-CN-00001.
  • Vouchers and free offers cost nothing, so they have no invoice.

Need a correction (for example a company name on the invoice)? Use the contact form.

Deleting your profile #

Where: Profile → Manage Subscription → Delete Profile

  1. Download any resume or cover letter PDFs you want to keep.
  2. In your Profile, press Delete Profile. A red box opens.
  3. Type your current password, tick I understand that my profile and all my resumes will be deleted permanently, and press Delete My Profile Permanently.

A trial or monthly plan is cancelled immediately (no refund for the current period), and your account, resumes, cover letters, plan history and referral records are erased. No archive copy is kept, so this cannot be undone. You are signed out and see a page where you can Download your certificate: a Certificate of Account Deletion as your record. Download it straight away; we keep one copy only as proof of the deletion. Invoices issued to you are kept for 7 years after the financial year in which they were issued, because tax law requires it; they are no longer linked to your account. Stripe keeps its payment records for accounting; see the Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting #

"Please wait a moment, complete the security check and try again"
The form was sent too quickly or the Cloudflare check had not finished. Wait until it shows Success! and press the button again.
"The AI service could not answer right now"
All AI providers were busy for a moment. Wait a minute and try again; your text is still in the box.
"You have used your … AI generations for today"
You reached your plan's daily limit (see Daily AI limits). It resets tomorrow.
"Active subscription required"
Your access has ended. Renew on the renew page.
"Your session has expired"
The page was open too long. Reload it and try again.
The resume shows [YOUR FULL NAME] or other placeholders
Your Profile was missing those details when the resume was made. Fill them in, then generate the resume again or use Refine Resume, for example "Put my name Jane Smith, my phone (555) 010-0000, my email address and Columbia, SC in the contact line", typing your real email address in place of the words "my email address".
The PDF does not download
Wait until the "Generating your PDF" window closes. Check that your browser allows downloads from placeyourskill.com.
